Corporate Cuts

When the axe swings, duck!  Easier said than done.  It never ceases to amaze me that when the time comes to down size, how the wrong people are on the chopping block.  Those who can, do, those who can’t are promoted to a higher position of authority and are responsible for making decisions that have a direct affect on the lives of the employees.
It’s a business, I get that and hard decisions have to be made but the further up the executive ladder you go, the further out of touch you get with the people who make the company run.

Several years ago a university in the US did a study on the intangible costs of letting an employee go or having him/her leave.  This would include lost efficiencies due to work load being picked up by other staff, loss of morale with remaining staff, loss of efficiencies in bringing a new employee up to speed, etc.  The number then was about $60,000, probably much more now.  When you lose a good person, the burden on morale is huge.

I always maintain that there are a lot smarter people than me, paid a lot more money than me to make these hard decisions.  But when the majority of the people on the floor who are apparently a lot less smart and paid a lot less money are left scratching their heads, it makes me wonder where common sense is hiding.

Sadly she was nowhere to be found today.
